Course Description

This course will cover the essential topics related to residential wiring, as outlined by the National Electrical Code (NEC). Topics covered include definitions of key terms, such as "continuous load", "device", "outlet", "receptacle", "feeder", and "branch circuit". The course will also cover specific requirements for receptacle outlet spacing, wall space, island and peninsular countertops, and work surfaces, as well as requirements for bathrooms, outdoor outlets, laundry areas, basements, garages, and hallways. Other topics include GFCI protection for personnel, AFCI protection, cord-and-plug connected loads, and equipment provisions. Students will also learn about nonmetallic-sheathed cable types, conductor applications, and insulations, as well as the requirements for boxes, conduit bodies, and fittings. Finally, the course will cover the rules for multiwire branch circuits and the permissible loads on 15- and 20-ampere branch circuits.90.4 Enforcement.

Colorado Residential Wireman,Journeyman and Master Electricians require 24 hours of continuing education every renewal period. Of which, 4 hours shall cover the changes in the latest National Electrical Code, 16 hours on any of the following: Grounding & Bonding, NEC changes (above and beyond the original required 4 hours), Wiring Methods, Theory and Calculations, NFPA 70E.
